Facebook, Instagram down during outage; thousands affected - Facebook and instagram Down!

If you were just kicked out of your Facebook or Instagram account while scrolling, you’re not alone. Meta’s social media platforms are currently not working, with both Instagram and Facebook pulling up “failure to load” error pages.

DownDetector reported over 352,000 outages at 10:49 a.m. Apps also appear to be affected.

If you are trying and failing to get access to your Facebook and Instagram account this afternoon you are not alone. It appears the social media apps are both down and not working with thousands hit by the bug. The gremlins appear to have started at around 3:00pm with the outage still ongoing and no word on when it will be fixed.

Downdetector, which monitors outages across the globe, is showing over 90,000 reports of Facebook being down. Instagram stands at over 16,000 reports making this one of the biggest issues for Meta (which owns both of these platforms) in years.

It's unclear what is causing the problems but many Facebook and Instagram users have dashed to rival social site, X (formerly Twitter) to vent their anger. One user named Cryto said: "Facebook is Down. Can't access my account," whilst another named Hickman added: "Facebook Down/ Instagram Down everything in Meta down."

It's very rare for Meta apps to have such big issues and hopefully, the tech team will be desperately trying to fix the glitch as soon as possible. Along with Facebook and Instagram, it also seems that Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp is also down and not working.

Problems on Facebook left some users unable to login, while others were logged out and unable to reset their passwords or access their accounts.

Meanwhile, Instagram users struggled to load timelines, stories and comments.

Andy Stone, communications director at Meta, posted on X when the problems were first reported: "We're aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now." Advertisement He later added: "Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. "We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologise for any inconvenience."
